Since graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, I have worked as a freelance illustrator for Time,Rolling Stone, Harper's, Spin, Fortune, The Atlantic, Newsweek, The New York Times , The National Post , Entertainment Weekly , Slate , Salon, Business Week, The New Yorker , GQ, The Los Angeles Times , and numerous other newspapers and magazines around the country and internationally. I have created art for advertising, CD and book covers, murals and packaging. Other clients include: Adidas, Levi Strauss, Weiden and Kennedy, Cahan and Assoc., DDB Dallas, MTV Networks, Warner Records, NYCE, ETrade, Sony Music, Nickelodeon, Coca-Cola Co., Target Stores, and American Express.
My first children's book, Polkabats and Octopus Slacks: 14 Stories , after being read on NPR by Daniel Pinkwater and Scott Simon , went to #1 on Amazon.com, and is now its sixth printing. I followed it with Dutch Sneakers and Fleakeepers : 14 More Stories , then, Tippintown: A Guided Tour , and most recently Flamingos on the Roof : Poems and Paintings - a 64 page collection of verse and artwork published in April 2006. All the books that i've both written and illustrated have been published by Houghton Mifflin Co. I have also illustrated two books for Getty Publications: Greece! Rome! Monsters! , and Pop-Up Aesop , both written by John Harris.
My paintings and drawings have been shown in galleries in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and I was also included in "America Illustrated", the inaugural exhibit at the new National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome. I continue to give lectures and participate in juried competitions when I can, and have done so in Toronto, Oslo, Rome, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Houston, Cleveland, Providence, Savannah, and last but not least, here in L.A.
I have taught illustration at Otis School of Art and Design and continue to teach at Art Center College of Design in beautiful Pasadena, California where I live and work.
